The Rookie's Guide to Bipolar Disorder is a primer for the person who has just been diagnosed with the disorder. It is a how-to to help the person make basic decisions about what to do when diagnosed with bipolar disorder, and contains basic information about bipolar disorder to help the person understand what is happening to him or her. It is also helpful for persons who are interested in learning more about the disorder to help loved ones.
It deals with the basics of the disorder, including diagnosis, dealing with doctors, the best methods of managing the illness, and explanations of what you can expect. It discusses such subjects as spending sprees, hypersexuality, and manic lack of judgment.
Often, when a person has just been diagnosed, they are left in a state of confusion and do not know where to turn. The Rookie's Guide to Bipolar Disorder gives basic information on what the disorder is like, how to manage it, and what medications are available to help in managing and controlling the disorder.
When I was diagnosed, there were no books and no Internet to turn to. I had to learn it as I went along. There is a tremendous amount of information to take in, and a lot of behavioral changes to be made when you find that you have bipolar disorder. I have tried, with this book, to gather together the basic information and advice that you will need to understand and manage the disorder. It does not contain all the information there is about bipolar disorder, but is a good start on learning about it.
The book contains resources to aid in dealing with the disorder. These include helpful books, how to access to support groups, websites, message boards, and chat rooms. All these will guide the person with bipolar disorder in learning more about bipolar and how to manage his or her situation.
